Chronology
Three women in an apartment in Marseille get stuck in a heat wave. Temperatures are rising in the south of France, the air is boiling in Marseille, people are advised to stay at home and enjoy each other’s company.
This picture is Noémie Merlant’s debut as a director and she does it briskly
However, Denise has had enough of the company of her abusive husband, who is always hungry, so she stabs him with a spade and then chokes him to death on their balcony. This is how the story begins, but it is not Denise who is the main character: the plot revolves around three younger women, Nicole, Ruby and Elise, who decide to have a small meeting about Nicole' on the balcony that evening and they never stop.
But she doesn’t seem to care about genre, she just cares about making her message very clear
He is not afraid to combine all existing film genres into one: horror, love story, thriller, drama, comedy, etc. He says no, screams, screams, screams: many women are raped, abused, humiliated, oppressed and victim-blamed on a daily basis by men, most of whom are their boyfriends, husbands or neighbours.

Noémie doesn’t want them to get away with it, just like her grotesque characters who find their liberation, and they don’t care what the cost is. An amazing, crude, graphic and very confident debut.
